The Art of Creative Wedding Photography: Beyond Traditional Shots

Wedding photography is an essential part of capturing the memories of your special day. While traditional poses are beautiful, adding a touch of creativity can make your wedding photos truly stand out.

Creative wedding photography involves thinking outside the box and trying new angles, lighting, and perspectives. It’s about capturing candid moments and emotions in a unique and artistic way.

Incorporating props or unusual elements into your photos can also add a fun and quirky touch to your wedding album.

So when Toni (@the_wedding_photography_house) calls you and says you need to come and work with me on a wedding because the clients are so awesome they have a drift car, smoke bombs and a Glow LED light spinner as a guest, how can you say no and not get excited about doing something different and creative.

The only problem, this was a winter wedding at The Wroxeter Hotel and a late ceremony, which meant we had hardly anytime to capture these shots as it got dark super early.

Well, getting dark earlier isn’t a problem at all, in fact, that’s where we can get really creative by using off camera flash, having some with a bit of creativity and imagination and an epic Bride & Groom willing to spend some time away from the dancefloor in the cold to capture these shots your wedding photos can become works of art that you cherish for years to come.

Epic wedding photography at the wroxeter hotel. Bride and groom smoke bombs and car

We started the night off with two of the guests spinning the Glow LED lights. We used an off camera flash behind the bride and groom to separate them from the lights behind and another flash in front of them to light them up! Its crazy to think when we took this shot it was pitch black, we couldn’t see a thing, thank god for phone torches to help us get everything in focus!

Jess and Guy were awesome and stayed still for ages to get the shot, we decided to pose them like this as it was a perfect way for them to stay in one spot, it was so cold and Jess braved it like trooper, but wow was it worth it!

From there we moved over to the drift car, and thought it would be awesome to use the headlights as additional light source to create a more dramatic look to the photos. We then had one of the groomsmen set off the smoke bombs behind the car and popped another off camera flash behind the smoke to create an epic silhouette of Jess & Guy.

The only pose we could do with this was sexy! We had to go full on sexy with this one, so we got them both posed and took the shot… WOW

From here, we decided to use another off camera flash and light them from the front, creating another look. We kept the car lights on and pointed the flash towards them lighting them and the car.

After this, we pulled them out in front of the car and used the headlights as a backlight, we still had the smoke bombs going (We had a few) with the headlights illuminating them from the back we used an off camera flash to again light them from the front. We decided not to pose them on this one and told them to just dance with each other, natural movement and swirls created some epic images!

For the final shot of the night we decided to create something dramatic and artistic, a subtle yet sensual pose with a snoot directing where the light would hit taking your focus directly onto them.

A lot of the time we don’t get the opportunity to create epic images like this. By the time the evening has come its pretty late as we shoot most of our weddings in the summer time, so it isn’t dark until after 22:30.

Most bride and grooms are filled with alcohol and want to just celebrate and dance the night away at that point and we can hardly blame them.

But, you can create some incredible creative images regardless of the light outside, if you want something that’s different from your typical natural, documentary style of photography and want something creative like this then we’d love the opportunity to have a chat to you and see what we can do.

Every couple deserves something epic on their wedding day, I’m not saying your wedding day should be a photoshoot, but if this is something you’d love to have printed and put on your mantle piece then you should have it! It’s so important to us to be able to give our clients what they truly want and create something that exceeds their expectations.

Guy and Jess were incredible and made this so much easier than it could have been. Shooting photos in complete darkness is not easy, especially in freezing conditions too and they just rolled with it because they knew what they was getting in the end.

I’d like to once again thank the one and only Toni from @the_wedding_photography_house for trusting me to come and create the magic with her. I cannot wait to see what’s next!
